# Review for CCCURJ

There are three ways to review for CCCURJ, and each looks at something different. Apply from your account; you can be a peer reviewer and an editor at the same time, but an account holds one editor role. See also [who reviews what](https://cccurj.org/help/preprints-and-flagship#who).

| | Peer reviewer | Preprint editor | Managing editor |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| What you review | CCCURJ Flagship papers in your subjects, when a managing editor invites you | Every preprint submitted to the archive, before it is announced | CCCURJ Flagship applications |
| What you do | Read the whole paper and write a signed report on its quality, accuracy and ethics, with a recommendation: accept, minor revision, major revision or reject | Check scope, category, artifact type, that the LaTeX matches the PDF, disclosures and eligibility; announce, hold with a note, or decline with a reason. **Not peer review** | Invite at least two peer reviewers, read their reports, and accept, ask for a revision or decline with a decision letter. Also approve peer reviewers |
| Who can apply | California Community College students (current, recent graduates or former, including transfer students) with relevant coursework or research | California Community College students (current, recent graduates or former) | California Community College students (current, recent graduates or former) |
| Approved by | A managing editor | An admin | An admin |
| Public credit | Your reports and name are published with accepted articles | Your name and totals on the [leaderboard](https://cccurj.org/leaderboard) | Your decision letters and name are published with accepted articles, and you appear on the leaderboard |

Peer reviewers: read the [reviewer guide](https://cccurj.org/flagship/reviewer-guide) before you apply; the application asks you to confirm you have.

## Everyone who reviews agrees to

- Keep unpublished manuscripts confidential and never upload them to an external generative AI system.
- Declare conflicts of interest, and never handle their own work or the work of co-authors, collaborators or close colleagues.
- Be timely and constructive, following [COPE](https://publicationethics.org/) guidance.

## Each role also agrees to

- **Peer reviewers**: publish their reports, recommendations and name with accepted articles.
- **Preprint editors**: check scope, format, disclosures and eligibility only, never whether the research is right, and give a reason for every hold or decline.
- **Managing editors**: publish their decision letters and name with accepted articles, and give reasons for every decline.

All three roles are for students. Faculty can mentor authors, co-author, or join the Faculty Advisory Board: see [for faculty](https://cccurj.org/faculty).
